Has your health taken a back seat to your business? You spend all day working, yet you have less energy. Your body aches and says no, but you keep going, because you have to build your business. You just don’t have time for “health.”
But is there something you can do without disrupting your business?
The good news is that there is. And these changes don’t have to be implemented right away. You can take small steps, and you can reap the rewards right away.
How To Stay Healthy
1. Short Breaks
When you sit and work at a computer, certain parts of your body are under tension, such as your arms, neck, and back. To get blood flowing to your body and brain, take short 5-10 minute breaks every hour. Do whatever comes intuitively to you during these breaks. The key is to move your body.
This could mean stretching, waving your arms around, massaging your arms/neck, or just taking a walk and getting some fresh air.
It’s simple but it will make a difference in your health.
When you build your business, focus and clarity are critical. But if you never take breaks, and if you never let your mind relax, you’re setting yourself up for failure. So what can you do?
Meditation is nothing more than sitting still or lying down for 5 minutes and observing your breathing, or noticing your thoughts.
Research has shown that if you meditate for just a few minutes per day, you tap into more creativity, energy, clarity, focus, happiness, and a whole list of other benefits.
If you find yourself procrastinating, start by meditating for just 30-60 seconds per day. You can do that, can’t you?
If you want to keep your well-being up, try stretching for longer periods of time. If you don’t know what to do, take a Yoga class, or watch a few YouTube videos.
I usually stretch right before I go to bed. When I started, I started with one stretch, which was to touch my toes from a standing position. I’m happy to say that I can now do that. I can touch my toes!
Remember to start small. If you do your stretches before bed, you’ll be surprised at how much it helps you fall asleep and let go of the worries of the day.
4. Lift Weights
Another great way to stay healthy is to lift weights.
You don’t have to go to the gym. If you have weights, or even a kettle bell, at home, you can get started.
You can also start with body weight exercises. Start by doing push ups and squats. That’s all you have to do. If you do them right after you wake up, you’ll get a boost of energy.
But more than anything, lifting weights helps balance your body’s muscles. When you sit at a computer all day long, you tend to develop a hunched over posture. In order to prevent this, work on developing muscles such as your back and hamstrings.
There are a lots of things you can do, so if you’re serious, get in touch with a personal trainer or a professional that can help you.
5. Eat to Live
If you eat a healthy diet consisting of:
– Healthy fats
– Organic meat
…and whole foods in general, you’ll notice the difference.
It’s easy to order a pizza because you don’t have time to cook or eat healthily. But in reality, you do have time. You need to take breaks from working on your business, and you have to take care of your body.
If you don’t, you’ll get less done with the time you have. You have to let your body and brain recharge.
All of these tips may feel overwhelming, but remember, you don’t have to implement all of them overnight. Pick one and start small. If you want to improve your diet, you could start by adding one extra fruit per day. If you want to take breaks, start by taking just one more break per day. After a week, add another fruit or take another break.
Tiny steps are what will lead to a lasting change.
And remember, if you neglect your health, you’re asking for trouble. So take care of yourself and your business will be better off.
