I believe this to be true.
Success is much easier when you have successful people supporting you.
We all have a network that we are building, but very few of us are intentional about building it in a way that supports our goals and dreams.
Our goal today is to start cozying up to people who can support us, mentor us, and encourage us on our path to success, and you will be shocked at how easy it is to connect with high level people.
Today, your task is to start building your network of successful people who can support you and encourage you.
This task is *extremely* simple, but it will absolutely change your life when you do it.
ASSIGNMENT #1 MAKE A LIST OF CONNECTIONS.
Pull out a new page in your journal and make a list of TEN people that are ahead of you on the path to success that you would like to add into your Success Network.
Start with people that you know: successful business owners, real estate investors, your rich neighbor, and that guy who gave you his business card at church last weekend.
Then, branch out to people that you follow, but do not know. Include bloggers, podcasters, fellow Fast Laners, speakers that you’ve seen in person, people that you follow on Facebook and Twitter, etc.
Altogether, you should have a list of TEN people that you want to add into your Success Network.
Then, write down at least THREE people that seem unreachable, but you’d be honored to work with. This would include motivational speakers, people whose CDs are in your car, people that you pay to hear speak, and your heroes. When I (Ryan) did this, the people are my list included Tony Robbins, comedian Kyle Cease, Congressman Ron Paul, and author Tim Ferriss. Today, each of these people is either an acquaintance of mine, or I have made connections close to them.
ASSIGNMENT #2: SEND THEM A FACEBOOK MESSAGE, HAND-WRITTEN NOTE, OR VIDEO EMAIL DETAILING YOUR GOALS, AND ASKING IF YOU CAN HELP THEM..
The best two ways to get a hold of someone is to either send them a hand-written note and/or a video email. A video email is an email with a link or an attachment of a video message. When I do this, I simply upload it to YouTube and email the link to the person that I am trying to connect with.
An email or a Facebook message is FAR inferior to a note or a video email, but it is still better than nothing.
Here is a quick example of a hand written note or video script that you can send:
I just wanted to tell you how much that I enjoyed meeting you at church last weekend. Thank you so much for sharing your insight about how you became successful. I’m always encouraged to see that people can succeed by doing things the right way
I wanted to let you know that, as a result of our short conversation, you have inspired me to pursue real estate investing, and I plan on leaving my job in the next six months. If there is anything that I can do to help you in your business, please consider me a resource.
I’d love to take you to lunch to thank you for inspiring me. I look forward to getting to know you further.
Here’s another example:
Dear Tony Robbins,
I just wanted to let you know how much your work has impacted me. Thank you for being such an inspirational example. Your Unleash The Power Within
conference absolutely changed my life, and I am forever grateful.
I have recently decided to pursue my dream of saving the dolphins in Japan. I believe this to be my purpose, and I will be moving to Japan in six months. If there
is any way that I can contribute to your community or to help you further your message, I would consider it a privilege.
Today, I am buying both of your books for several of my closest friends, and I know that it will change their life as well. Thank you for all that you do.
Write these messages or record them as videos, and send them to each one of your contacts.
This will take about an hour, and it will be the best use of your time that you have spent all week.
Then, post your list to the Freedom Fast Lane Facebook group, and on your public Facebook.
Again, someone knows someone who knows someone. You’ll be amazed at how accessible people are when you have an introduction, or when you simply offer to contribute to them.
Note: if you already have a blog or podcast, then you can lead with that. Ask to feature them on your blog, in your podcast, or with your growing audience. You’ll be amazed at how many people are willing to connect with you in order to get exposure on your blog or in front of your audience.
